Excuses, Excuses…
Today, I’m writing to you from a cozy little studio by the ocean in Hawaii. My wife and I decided to take a trip to Maui for our honeymoon. And just unplug for a while. ![]()
So this post is going to be short. But I want to share with you some thoughts that have been coming up in my world.
I’m curious to see what your comments will be on this.
It has to do with EXCUSES. Yup! All the things you say that justify you staying right where you are. Or the “reasons” you use to avoid the actual fears and doubts that are lurking beneath the surface.
Have you ever thought about WHY you use excuses?
So many people want to experience their Holy Grail of life…and yet, when the rubber hits the road and the results are not happening…they use excuses to justify why they haven’t reached that health goal or that wealth goal…
I don’t know about you, but it doesn’t feel good emotionally or energetically to have to resort to some form of justification of WHY you’re not creating the results you really want. It makes you feel weak. It even makes some people feel helpless…like they’re broken in some way.
So what do we do? What’s the alternative to an excuse besides just being hard on ourselves?
And by the way, being hard on yourself is definitely NOT the answer. There’s plenty of that in the world. We don’t need to PUSH HARDER!
What we do need is to notice WHERE an excuse usually comes up. I’m sure you’ll agree that almost all excuses come up whenever we get triggered to explain “WHY?” something hasn’t occurred.
Right? Again, we all use excuses mainly when we are justifying WHY WE HAVEN’T done or accomplished something.
So wouldn’t it make sense to address WHY we’re even going for something in the first place?
See, I don’t believe for one second that we need to use more Will-Power. It’s been proven over and over again, and hypnotists know this very well…
…IMAGINATION will always trump WILL-POWER!
What’s that supposed to mean?
Well, ask anyone WHY they’re going for a certain goal…and notice how in an instant…they fall into a trance.
Yes, a hypnotic trance.
All sorts of images begin to rush through their minds. Maybe images of success. Whatever it is, they have reasons that are linked to images in their minds that are linked to pleasure and pain responses.
Some people are moving AWAY from circumstances…
Some people are moving TOWARDS new circumstances…
What I propose is that instead of coming up with an excuse and justify your actions or non-actions…
And instead of simply brushing something off and saying “Well, it’s OK. I didn’t meet my (Fill In The Blank) goal AGAIN!”…
Instead of all of that…take time to create a BIGGER “WHY?”!!
WHY is this important for you?
WHY are going for this goal in the first place?
WHAT will you ultimately benefit if you DO accomplish this goal?
WHY is that important to you?
WHAT will you keep experiencing if you DON’T accomplish this goal?
WHY don’t you want to experience that any more?
WHY now?
I guarantee you…if you come up with a big enough WHY…you can do anything.
Purpose is the solution.
Here’s the success formula:
Your Goal + A BIG Why + Images of Success + Daily Action = Daily Success and Fulfillment
The EXCUSE formula goes something like this:
Your Goals + a small why + not many images of success + not much action = Not achieving your goals and EXCUSES!
Your actions will spring from your purpose and internal representations of SUCCESS or FAILURE.
Don’t just change your behavior and believe that this will do the trick.
Your behavior is a symptom of multiple internal movements of consciousness. One of the BIG ones, again, is PURPOSE…your reasons WHY?
So, notice where you’re coming with little results and lots of excuses…and create a BIGGER WHY!
OK. That’s it for now. I’m going to go and surf the waves for a bit.
Wishing you the BEST of success, health, and fulfillment!
Create a beautiful day!

Joshua, you are an amazing, understanding, and most profound person!
Thankyou,and bless you,
Glenice M.
Josh,
Like I have said before, It is great to get to hear from you! It is very important to focus on why you want to accomplish your goals. I feel it is also important to focus on the outcome of the accomplishment.
This is where I believe that most people accept failure. They are use to it. They have great intentions that start the dream but if one thing happens that keeps them from accomplishing it as fast as they would like then they stop there and call it failure.
Many people need to learn and understand that failure is part of success. I can not think of one instantly successful person. Even Edison had to try out 300 or more different substances to produce the filiment in the lightbulb.
When people told him he should give up because he was failing, his answer was something like: Failing? But I have found 300 objects that won’t work.
Josh, I like to use failure to measure success. Success can be found no matter how many failures happen first. Success is found by keeping up with your dream and focusing on your desired outcome.
This is a great post because you are right, excuses are easier then trekking ahead. And by the way, Congradulations:)
